Robert Healey

Immediately before joining Ryder Wright, Robert retired from the position of Canadian Counsel to the United Steelworkers. He had been a member of the Legal Department of the United Steelworkers since 1992. Prior to that, he was an associate lawyer with a firm in downtown Toronto, practicing in the areas of civil litigation and labour law. Robert was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1990 and so has over 30 years of experience as a union side labour lawyer.
As Canadian Counsel to the United Steelworkers, Robert was the union’s general counsel in Canada and Head of the Legal Department of its Canadian National Office. Robert supervised most of the legal work generated by the union. As well, he provided legal and strategic advice to union officers and staff across the country.
Robert has extensive experience in litigation and mediation. He has appeared before grievance arbitration panels, the Grievance Settlement Board, the Canada Industrial Relations Board, the Ontario Labour Relations Board, provincial labour relations boards, the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal, other statutory tribunals across Canada, all levels of court in Ontario, and some courts in other jurisdictions.
